Free AOL Desktop to be discontinued!
Windows 10 Creators update, starts in April

Free AOL Desktop to be discontinued!

All versions of AOL Desktop will become unavailable to free accounts

If you use AOL Desktop software you're going to have to upgrade to the new AOL Desktop Gold and subscribe to a monthly service fee to continue using the AOL Desktop. If you use a browser like Google Chrome then AOL email is free. From what I've seen so far, they are selecting a few customers at a time and the price has varied from $3.99 to $5.99 per month. The notice deadline date has also varied from April 7th, to the 10th, to no date at all. Out of hundreds of my customers that use the AOL Desktop, I've only seen about 5 that this notice has appeared on their AOL Desktop and then had to upgrade to the AOL Desktop Gold or use a regular browser.

So, what can you do?

You can wait until you get the notice and then upgrade to a monthly charge or start to use a browser like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Internet Explorer completely free.
Simply open your favorite browser like Chrome or Firefox and type mail.aol.com into the address bar, tap the "Enter" key and then sign-in. You now have access to your free AOL email account.

UPDATE: More information in the October newsletter regarding the AOL Desktop Gold.

Windows 10 Creators Update

Microsoft has started rolling out another big update (Creators Update) starting in April and you won't be able to use your computer during the installation, it will take a while.
Some of the new features will include:

  1. Pen Functionality In Word.
  2. Edge has a new tab browser feature that makes it easier to navigate open tabs with the page-preview open and a session manager to restore tabs from prior browsing sessions.
  3. Accent Colors.
  4. You can now lower the amount of blue light emitted from your PC at night with Night light.
  5. The mini view feature.
  6. The "Control Panel" is gone from the right click Context Menu but it can still be accessed through the Windows System folder under all apps.
